#ThrowBackThursday A look back at LeMans from a few years ago
By Kevin Haggarthy
LeMans is always great fun. Motoroverload’s Kevin Haggarthy got the opportunity to drive the 599 GTB in a convoy of Ferraris’ in 2009. This clip shows the Supercar Parade. Let’s hope it happens again this year!
This is the grooviest car review on the internet right now. Full Video Too!
Kia call this car the Soul, and music has always been an integral theme with this model range – even in this latest third generation edition. You can see that from the acoustically-themed stylised interior design elements, and the fact that it’s got a banging 10-speaker Harmon/Kardon sound system. Whilst on the UK launch of the latest version, the most pertinent comment of the day came from Kevin Haggarthy: “I know why this car doesn’t have any engine noise, it’s so we can hear the music better!”
Check out our extensive drive review of the new 8 Series Gran Coupe
By Shahzad Sheikh
It had pop-up lights and it’s now an appreciating classic, the original BMW 8 Series ran from 1990-1999, and I remember it well. Sleek, long bonnet, short rear deck, and packed with electronics and gadgetry that was frankly frightening in its day. And to be fair, that’s what led to considerable depreciation for this otherwise sexy and highly desirable car, as technical complexity scared off a lot of potential used car owners. That’s changing fast as, along with the most popular 1990s models, it hits modern classic status and values start to increase.
I have been waiting two years to do a full review on the new Suzuki Jimny. It’s had people lining up around the block to get one since its launch in 2018, thanks to the adorable, yet too-cool-for-cute looks that make it appear tough yet tonka toy-like. It’s akin to a mini Mercedes G-Wagen and in fact you can get body kits that convert it to look like one – they love those in the Middle East.
Most of us are cute when we’re babies. And then we grow up
However some fortunate few manage to retain that adorability even as they mature. In the car world, that’s the 500X. If every time you happen upon a Fiat 500 you just want to pick it up and cuddle it, then you’ll like its bigger brother, the 500X. Okay, you may not want to pick it up – it looks firmly within its puppy-fat phase – but you’ll want to pull its cheeks (fenders) and pat it on the head (roof).
Kevin’s got one on test – his review coming soon – meanwhile, here’s one Shahzad did earlier!
When it came to Hondas, Type R used to mean screaming highly-strung motors, super tight shocks to keep the car flat (and chiropractors in business), and a raw lightness more redolent of a tin-top racer for the track than a sportscar for B-roads. Type R also meant the most exciting, capable and engaging versions of ordinary cars ever offered for sale.
It’s been very cold, and certainly one of the worst Winters for a while. Think of that awful day, the one you thought would never happen; stranded in your vehicle in the middle of nowhere in snow and ice. In the same way you thought you should have gone to Specsavers before you walked into that lamp post, it’s times like these when you wish you’d bought a Land Rover.
